The TRIBALDEX™ report provides comprehensive, customized information for a specified ministry study area. For each of the major lifestyle segments in your ministry study area, you will receive maps, segment descriptions, community demographic characteristics, lifestyle characteristics, and a “Missional Segment Wheel” with an explanation of the following social identity characteristics: ethnic categories, lifestyle & lifestage categories, and socioeconomic, urbanicity, religious, and household structure. The “Global Lifestyle” information on the Missional Cyclopedia website links the lifestyle segments to similar lifestyles in over 20 countries around the world.

Primary Missional Role Using this Report

Those missional believers with apostolic giftedness endeavor to identify specific groups of people in the community that need to be reached with the gospel with the intent of beginning new ministries and congregations among them. The TRIBALDEX report provides the information that an apostolic team needs to take a multilayered approach to understanding the mulitiple social identities that are represented in the community.

Research Question

Who are the ethnic, lifestyle, lifestage, and socio-religious groups in your community?

Report Description

The TRIBALDEX report provides 282 data variables on 158 pages of data and worksheets to enable churches to identify specific groups of people in their community. Each report is customized based upon a defined missional area which could be a ring distance, drive-time, a custom polygon, or which could be based upon a level of geography such as census blockgroup, census tract, zip code, city or town, county, MSA or other standard geographies.

Report Objective

To assist congregations in identifying ethnic, lifestyle, lifestage, and religious groups within their communities.

Since data at the Census Block Group layer is aggregated at a larger area of geography than the microgrid, it is not as precise as the microgrid layer. Data aggregated at larger areas of geography tend to hide as much as they reveal.

The above diagram shows a summary Missional Wheel for a church in Wyoming. The worksheets provides several "missional wheels" to aid in identifying different types of people groups in the community.

Report Worksheets

The worksheets provide a step-by-step procedure to identify significant groups of people in the community, where these groups live within the community, and the impact their characteristics have on reaching them for Christ, discipling them and congregationalizing them. The worksheets are designed as a group exercise -- where a missional team can identify pockets of various types of people and then discuss the implications these pockets have for evangelization and discipleship.

Report Training

Ministry Context Analysis training is included in the iFOCUS Basic Training process. Here participants use their own TRIBALDEX report in conjunction with presentations and dialogue regarding God’s Activity in the Community, Community Spirituality Issues, and Community Identity Issues. Participants learn how people use aspects of their social identities to create social groups. Their customized TRIBALDEX report lists many social categories that people in their community may use to create these social or “neotribal” groups.
