The Missional CLUSTERDEXTM report arose from the desire of denominational groups to develop Missional Church Learning Clusters based on the six social environments that are prevalent today. These six social environments are:

  • Upscale Communities
  • Mainstay Communities
  • Working Communities
  • Country Communities
  • Aspiring Communities
  • Urban Communities

The Missional CLUSTERDEXTM report enables churches to begin networking with other churches whose location is in similar cultural contexts.

Primary Missional Role Using this Report

The prophets of both the Old and New Testament assessed the current and future realities confronting the children of Israel and alerted the leaders and people. While the OT prophetic message was not always well received, the prophetic function of assessing current and future realities and alerting leadership continued into the days of the early church and beyond. The Missional CLUSTERDEX report facilitates this vital prophetic role in our churches today -- assessing realities in the church and community and alerting leaders with information they need to make adjustments to their ministry and mission.

Research Question

The Missional CLUSTERDEXTM report answers the following question:

  • What is the primary and secondary social environment around each church location -- and thus what Missional Church Learning Clusters need to be developed?

Report Description

The Missional CLUSTERDEXTM report gives an overview of the number and percent of the churches whose location is within a primary, secondary and tertiary (third) social environment type. For denominational groups (like conventions or conferences) who have subgroups (like associations or districts), a summary of the number of churches within each subgroup who are in each social environment is provided. In addition, a comprehensive overview of each church identifies its primary and secondary communmity type, the total number of households, and the number of those households that are in each social environment/community type.

Report Objective

To assist demonational groups in identifying the social environments in which their churches minister in order to develop peer-to-peer learning based on their common sociocultural context.
