The FITDEX™ Report uses the results of a congregational survey to measure the cultural distance between the church and the community and to evaluate the compatibility of the congregation with the segments of the community. In order for the church to maximize its potential for growth, the congregation must be "congruent" with the cultural groups represented in the ministry study area. The extent of compatibility of the congregation with each of the segments in the community has a decisive role in creating a missional strategy.

PRIMARY MISSIONAL ROLE USING THIS REPORT

Those believers who minister in the evangelistic role endeavor to proclaim the gospel and mobilize believers to reach specific groups of people. However, before engaging a particular group of people in the community an assessment of the current congregation should be made. This assessment addresses the extent to which a particular cultural group may be able to be easily incorporated within the existing congregation. New believers from different cultural groups have differing issues to confront in discipleship. In addition, cultural barriers within the congregation (while having the potential of being overcome for the sake of the gospel) may hamper the disciplemaking process. The FITDEX report evaluates the extent to which a cultural group in the community would "feel at home" with those believers who are already in the church. A large cultural distance between the community group and the congregation may necessitate the need for a new church in order to meet the needs of the new believers.

RESEARCH QUESTION:

If you reach a particular group, will you be able to disciple them and incorporate them into your congregation? How do you decide who you can reach and who you can’t?

REPORT DESCRIPTION:

Based on a congregational survey and community research, the FITDEX report provides a customized comparative analysis of the congregation in light of the community context along 83 variables. By analyzing the demographic, motivational, lifeview, & behavioral distance between active church member households and community cultural groups you will be able to discern: (1) those groups that are the most culturally compatible with the church, (2) those groups that are the least culturally compatible with the church, (3) the motivations that drive your church and community groups, and (4) the best missional options in developing ministry outreach to the community groups.

REPORT OBJECTIVE:

To assist congregations in discovering the cultural distance between them and the ethnic, lifestyle, lifestage, and religious groups found in their communities.

The worksheets provide a process to discover the best adaptive strategies that are needed in order to reach each of the cultural groups in the community. By determining the culturally appropriate "end game" for each lifestyle enclave in the community you will become more effective in developing your missional strategy.

REPORT TRAINING:

Training in Congregational Cultural Analysis is included in the iFOCUS Advanced Training process. The training discusses the church as a new "people group," types of cultural distance & their significance, and how to assign an adaptive strategy to a cultural group based on cultural distance.
